About the School

LAVA 2025 is an intensive 8-day Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for Computer Vision and Language Modelling. It features expert lectures, tutorials, and hands-on sessions led by top academicians and industry experts.

Prof. Dipti Prasad Mukherjee, Professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata has authored a popular text on Computer Graphics entitled Fundamentals of Computer Graphics and Multimedia (PHI Learning) and published many peer-reviewed research papers.
Prof. Ranjay Krishna

Prof. Ranjay Krishna

Assistant Professor, University of Washington

Prof. Ranjay Krishna holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering and in Computer Science from Cornell University, a master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington.

Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay

Retd. Professor, Jadavpur University

Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay received the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science and engineering from IIT Kharagpur, India, and the Ph.D. degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. He is having over 25 years of teaching experience with Jadavpur University, four years of industry experience, and 12 years of technical consultancy in the reputed industry houses.
Prof. Deepak Mishra

Prof. Deepak Mishra

Professor, IIST Thiruvananthapuram

Prof. Deepak Mishra is a Professor in the Department of Avionics at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Trivandrum. He has been serving at IIST since 2010 and previously worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Louisville. His academic and research contributions span avionics systems, signal processing, and space technology.
Nidhi Tiwari

Dr. Nidhi Tiwari

Microsoft

Dr. Nidhi Tiwari holds a Ph.D. in Distributed Computing from the IITB Monash Research Academy. She is currently a Principal Applied Scientist at Microsoft, with over two decades of experience in machine learning, software engineering, and performance analytics, including leadership roles at Microsoft, FICO, and Infosys. Her work spans applied research, cloud solutions, and AI-driven innovations for enterprise-scale impact.
Arijit Ukil

Dr. Arijit Ukil

TCS Innovation Labs, Tata Consultancy Services

Dr. Arijit Ukil received his M.Tech. degree from Jadavpur University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Murcia, Spain. He is currently a Principal Scientist at Tata Consultancy Services Research, where he leads innovations in deep learning, generative AI, and data privacy. Dr. Ukil has authored over 50 research papers, contributed to multiple book chapters, and holds more than 30 granted patents across the globe.
Hrishikesh Sharma

Dr. Hrishikesh Sharma

TCS Innovation Labs, Tata Consultancy Services

Dr. Hrishikesh Sharma received his B.Tech.–M.Tech. Dual Degree and Ph.D. in Signal Processing and Algorithm Design from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He is currently a Principal Scientist at TCS Research, where he leads cutting-edge work in multimodal data synthesis, generative AI, and agentic process automation. Over the past two decades, he has spearheaded impactful deep tech innovations including drone-based surveillance and visual anomaly detection systems.
Sandipan Sarma

Dr. Sandipan Sarma

Samsung R&D Institute

Dr. Sandipan Sarma completed his B.Tech. in Computer Science from IIEST Shibpur and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He is currently a Lead Engineer at Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore, where he works in the XR Object Perception team. His research interests span zero-shot learning, immersive XR, and computer vision.

Accomodation

A limited number of hostel rooms are reserved for participants from 29th June to 8th July on a first-come-first-served basis. If you require accommodation, please select the appropriate option in the registration form. Further details will be communicated closer to the event.

Room Details: Shared 2/3-seater rooms at approximately ₹200 per day. Charges apply for the entire duration of stay, including arrival and departure days. An additional ₹50–₹100 per day are required for renting bedding and accessories. Participants are advised to bring their own bedsheets and mosquito nets.

Dining Options: Participants may dine at any open hostel mess or campus canteen. Messes provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner at ₹60–₹80 per meal (vegetarian). Non-vegetarian options incur additional charges. Canteens offer extended hours and a wider menu but are limited in number.

Important: Once you have checked in to the campus, leaving the premises will not be permitted without prior approval from the coordinators.
